Habitat for Humanity

Dedication of 2008 Habitat house in Apache Junction

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is committed to revitalization of our cities and declining suburban areas by building or renovating affordable housing for low income families. Red Mountain United Methodist Church participates one Saturday per month, October through April, and additional projects as they are scheduled.

Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 9:00 AM was the Superstition Coalition dedication of our Habitat House for Crystal Privett and her family. This was the celebration of the completion of yet another successful build by the coalition, a group of more than a dozen East Valley churches.

Unique to this project is that it is part of a whole neighborhood of habitat for Humanity homes along one street, more than two dozen homes, in a cul-de-sac on E. Mockingbird Lane in Apache Junction AZ. In addition to building the homes, appliances were donated by Whirlpool, and professional installation completed by contractors largely donating their time ans sometimes materials, including wiring, plumbing, HVAC and exterior stucco (where needed). particularly noteworthy is that he homes have solar water heaters installed by SRP. Not only will the household utility bills be reduced, but SRP will have a good source of real-world energy data for calculating solar water heating efficiency.

Our participation included sharing two build days with one other church, we provided a breakfast (coffee, rolls, juice) at one work day, and lunch (sandwiches, fruit, juice, cookies) for the other work day. The lunch was graciously donated and prepared by the loving hands of the Rebecca Circle of RMUMC.  In addition to the two dozen willing and happy RMUMC workers who took part, we need to thank Steve Heppe for representing us at the Coalition kick-off meeting in September, Karen Rauls for picking up and delivering the Breakfast, and Verna Berndt for providing the lunches made by Rebecca Circle.

Financially, we donated a total of $2678.14 from Red Mountain UMC! This includes budgetted Habitat funds, individual funds donated at RMUMC, and funds donated directly to Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona.

A big “thank you” to all who made this year's Habitat for Humanity project a success!
