THE POWER TO CHANGE THE WORLD
The sermon series during May will focus on stories from the Book of Acts. The full title of the book is "The Acts of the Apostles." It should really be titled, "The Acts of the Holy Spirit," as the book reflects the mighty power and work of God's Spirit in and through the ministry of the apostles. The Holy Spirit empowered the early Christian disciples in their witness of the risen Lord, and shaped their 'resurrection practices' as a Christian community, including economic, spiritual, and social actions.
The powerful influence of the Spirit extended to all believers as the disciples were led to share possessions, heal the sick, care for the poor and hungry, push past accepted divisions and boundaries, and reach out to all people, inclusive of nations, languages, and cultures. This same Holy Spirit still empowers us today to reach out to all in need, as we change the world in the name of the risen Christ.
